"Katsuki-san, are you going back to Tokyo tonight?"
After nodding in response to a colleague's question in the break room after the shift, Yui Kōzuki felt that her voice sounded a little quieter.
The eight-hour flight went smoothly.
But there's always some kind of twist between the time on the plane and the time on the ground.
I got back to my room after 11pm.
The windows are not open, and the only place I can feel the outside air is through the curtains.
Leaving the lights off, I took out a small bottle from the back of my bag.
─ Cypress essential oil.
A brown glass bottle of Kyoto Asanoha.
Slowly pour a drop onto a wooden aroma stone.
A quiet, pure fragrance that rises softly.
A neat corridor, a ryokan bathtub, and an early morning cedar forest.
Such a scene appeared silently in my mind.
The scent is of cypress.
Just that alone made the atmosphere in the room turn into one that was reluctant to accept what others were saying.
Yui loves her job.
However, at some point I needed time to switch between the "self I like" and the "true self."
This scent does that.
Without anyone noticing, without anyone showing.
"You're amazing at talking to people like that," is what I often hear on planes.
But in reality, he values "silent time" more than anyone else.
The scent of cypress is not sweet.
But one drop can really define the boundaries of a room.
"From now on, it's my time."
I also closed my notebook.
I also put my smartphone on charge.
That's the end of "Katsuki Yui, Flight Attendant" for today.
As the scent began to fade, I finally took a deep breath.
That alone was enough.
This scent gives you a sense of serenity that no one can intrude on.
