Product Page At that time in the Heian period, there was a custom of fans soaked with one's favorite fragrance and giving folding fans to each other, not only blowing wind to you. This product has fragrance soaked into the fan surface and the bone. Essential oil and its terpenes are modern fragrance components from natural plants. Each aroma serves to heal or relax you, or even protect against insects or fungi to repel.
Even before rice farming, already 12,000 years ago, people were cultivating hemp. In the Heian period, the symbol of hemp, the 'Asanoha' pattern was born. This pattern serves as a symbol of the long history and importance of hemp to the present day.
＂Lingering fragrance＂ During the Heian Period (8th century) men and women used to exchange perfumed fans so that they could get reminded of each other and also express their sense. It was called “Utsuriga” - 移り香 -
Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in natural plants. They are widely used in aromatherapy, Ayurveda, and Herbal medicine. Each time you wave this fan, the rich aroma spreads.
Creation of Kyoto-style fans consist of 80 steps carried out by skilled craftsmen. The traditional techniques of infusing fragrance into the Sensu Fan are part of the manufacture.As a result, they became more compact and convenient to carry. It is said to have then traveled to China and spread to Europe via the Silk Road. The process of manufacture consists of 80 details before finishing, and each process is carried out by skilled craftsmen in a division of labor.

Depends on the situation but the aroma is basically staying about for 1~2 months. We recommend not to wash the fan. But if you really need it, we still suggest you wash it by hand and in cold water.

Yes, all the process of manufacture is done by hand made from masters in Kyoto, Japan. And we deliver the fans to customers all over the world.
Well, that is hard to answer. It is possible for you when you use a good spray for purfume and when the material does not contain water however we recommend you to let our servise does for you.
Use silver paper to hold the fan (included at the time of delivery) or a hair tie to make it a habit to keep the fan closed. Please store it in a place away from sunlight (preferably in a place without high humidity).
