Sakura Shichimi's Special Points

The special features of Charcoal Shichimi

Cherry blossoms herald the arrival of spring.

To the Japanese, cherry blossoms are more than just flowers; they are a special symbol of new beginnings.

In the past, aristocrats would hold cherry blossom viewing parties during cherry blossom season, and it was customary to add cherry blossom leaves to food and sake to enjoy the fragrance.

The remnants of this tradition are still passed down today, remaining in cultural traditions such as sakura mochi and sakura tea.

We would like to bring this beautiful Japanese tradition of "savoring the scent of cherry blossoms" to modern dining tables.

This idea led to the creation of "Sakura Shichimi."

The deep black color created by charcoal.

In the past in Japan, charcoal was not just used as fuel but also as a symbol of purification.

It is said that charcoal was used for shimenawa (sacred ropes) and festivals at shrines, and even for samurai to purify themselves before battle.

Could we create a new spice by combining the power of charcoal with the profound flavor of shichimi pepper?

This idea led to the creation of "Sumi Shichimi."

Sakura Shichimi Product Overview

Product Overview of Sumi Shichimi

raw materials
  1. Red pepper: It is an important ingredient in Sakura Shichimi that gives it a spicy flavor. It is made from ripe green chili peppers that have turned red, and the compound that gives it its spiciness is "capsaicin." Capsaicin has the effect of warming the body and improving blood circulation. It is also rich in nutrients such as vitamin C and carotene, and is used as a seasoning to add spiciness and color to dishes.
  2. Cherry Blossoms: Sakura leaves are an important ingredient that gives Sakura Shichimi its unique aroma. In particular, the ingredient "coumarin" creates the sweet and gentle aroma of cherry blossom leaves. This aroma is familiar because it is also used in sakura mochi (cherry rice cakes). Sakura leaves are also said to have antioxidant and relaxing effects. When used in cooking, it gives a rich aroma and flavorful taste.
  3. Ginger: It contains a pungent ingredient called gingerol, which gives ginger its unique hotness and warms the body. Ginger also aids digestion and has long been used as a food that warms the body. It is used with other spices to add flavor and aroma to dishes.
  4. Pepper: This is a material made from the dried young leaves of the Japanese pepper tree. Japanese pepper leaves contain a compound called "citronellal" and have a refreshing lemon-like scent. Compared to the fruit of the Japanese pepper, Japanese pepper leaves have a milder flavor and add a light spiciness and aroma to food. Japanese pepper leaves also have digestive and antibacterial properties, so they have long been used as a seasoning to make meals more enjoyable.
  5. Genkou: A rare citrus fruit that grows on Madara Island in Saga Prefecture. It has a thick peel and a strong sour taste, and has long been used as a seasoning by locals. Genko has a refreshing scent unique to citrus fruits, and the dried peel is used in shichimi togarashi. This gives Sakura Shichimi its unique aroma and flavor.
  6. Hemp seeds: Seeds from the cannabis plant (hemp), which have long been used in shichimi togarashi (Japanese pepper seasoning). Hemp seeds have a nutty flavor and a crunchy texture that add an accent to dishes. Hemp seeds also contain many nutrients that the body needs. For example, they contain a good balance of body-building protein and healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Only safe hemp seeds are used in Japan, so you can eat them with peace of mind.
  7. Red pepper: A spice made from dried ripe peppercorns. It is milder than black pepper and has a sweeter flavor. The hot ingredient is piperine, which is different from the hot ingredient in chili peppers, capsaicin. Red pepper contains vitamins A and C, potassium, and other nutrients, and has antioxidant properties that aid digestion and protect the body. When used in cooking, it not only adds spiciness and flavor, but also adds a beautiful color, making it perfect for meat dishes and salads.
